“24/7” that’s what I said.

“But dad...”

“I don’t want to hear it Peter. That’s what I’ve decided so that’s what’s going to happen.”

“But dad, please, it’s not... it’s not...”

“Enough. I don’t want to hear any more about it and sulking, throwing a fit or generally being grumpy about it isn’t going to help your case so... accept this is how it’s going to be and then we can all move on.”

“Ohhh,” Peter sighed and reluctantly gave way to his father’s argument.

Peter removed the thick terry fabric nappy he’d only just pinned on as his dad passed him a pair of white CK trunks.

“There, once you have them on you’ll feel a lot better and look more grown up... isn’t that the idea as you get older?” His father teased.

“S’pose so,” he looked most unhappy as he stepped into the soft cotton that Calvin Klein is famous for.

His dad wriggled them up his son’s legs then finally patted his bum. “There, all nice and comfy... now who’s a big boy?”

His father looked at his son expectantly and waited for a reply.

“I am,” but Peter didn’t sound happy or convinced. In fact, if anything he looked decidedly morose.

“But they don’t feel right,” Peter sniffed running his palms over the soft fabric. “What if I have an accident?”

“Look son, you haven’t had an accident for many, many years... I think it’s time...”

“But dad, there’s no guarantee... can I at least wear my plastic pants over them?” He asked hopefully.

His father shook his head.

“Now you need to wear them from now on, I don’t want you slipping back into nappies because you’re twenty one and should be past such baby items by now.”

“Aaaawwww,” his son moaned dejectedly and wanted to cry. “Pleeeeaaassseee... just one more day?”

His father hated to see his son upset. In fact, over the years, he’d gone out of his way to make sure his only son was happy. It was hard to deny his sweet-natured, unassuming, polite and loving child anything.

So, despite his previous conviction he relented “OK, sweetheart... but only one more day.”

“Yeeeaahhhh!”
